Painting my guitar...?
OK, I wanna paint my Squier Strat guitar body. I'm mid-customising it and I've already got a left-handed Stratocaster neck for it. I'm going for a funky look. Maybe a 'The Fool' Clapton SG look or a Jackson Pollock design. I was thinking of roughing up the surface and just splashing some acrylic paint on it. I don't want to spend too much money on it, so I was just wondering if this is a good idea. Also, any ideas on cheap lacquer, or do I even HAVE to use lacquer? I live in Ireland and it's impossible to get that good Krylon stuff, so I'd have to use hardware store stuff. Do I need it? Thanks a lot for your help!
Peace and love
Hello! Admittedly I am not an expert when it comes to painting wood, but I can attest to two important factors. First, it is critical that the wood be properly sealed and primed prior to painting. Second, enamel is not as flexible as lacquer, and will crack more easily when exposed to rapid changes in temperature. Even if you have to use a cheaper lacquer, it will be more stable on your guitar than expensive enamel. Hope this helps point you in the right direction. Best regards from California!
