How does Neil Young have anything to do with grunge?
One time when I was watching a documentary on the 1970s, it claimed that Neil Young was the "godfather of grunge" in the same manner as Pete Townshend of the Who was the "godfather of punk." How does the rock music that Nirvana popularized have anything to do with folk-rock?
You obviously no nothing at all about Neil Young if you believe all he does is folk-rock. Neil defined the sound that many early Seattle Grunge bands adopted, most notably Pearl Jam, Sonic Youth, and Soundgarden, who members list Neil as their primary influence, not Nirvana. Neil has had this unofficial titled tagged to him for almost twenty years, so the fact that you just found out by watching some documentary shows what little you even know about Grunge.
Many Grunge aficionados consider Neil's 1979 album Rust Never Sleeps to be the roots of Grunge, and consider some of his later releases such as Freedom (1989) and Ragged Glory (1990) as Grunge staples.
