Consequences of driving with a loose rocker arm, push rod hitting valve cover.?

My oil was low on my pontiac and I started having problems. I think this is the problem, I just need to know what the consequences are of driving it with a loose rocker arm with push rod hitting valve cover. The car accelerates slowly and going over 20m.p.h. causes a hard tap/knocking sound, slow acceleration and loosing power.

Also how much would a shop charge to fix this problem as far as labor? I understand the prices are different everywhere I am just looking for a price range.
