What is the best type of strings for an acoustic electric?
ELIXIR POLYWEB lights?
Help!
That depends a lot on the style of playing. My personal favorite brand are D'Addario. I tend to play fingerstyle with some light strumming, so I use a light guage string. If you're more into the heavy strumming, use a heavier string (medium guage at least).
Edit: I've never used Elixir strings, but I would worry about the coating affecting the crispness of the sound. For electric guitars, where the pickup can sense the vibration through the coating, this probably doesn't make a difference. But for an acoustic, I don't want anything coming between my strings and my guitar's body that will affect the transfer of sound. I may be wrong -- they may be worth a try if they can sound as good and last longer.

Instrumental Duets for Guitar
The guitar makes a great accompaniment instrument for instrumental duets with a melody instrument. If you are interested in playing with other musicians like this the collections below will give you a great repertoire for playing with flute, violin, or harmonica. Build your accompaniment skills and repertoire and you will always be in demand by instrumental players.
The guitar and the flute have been musical companions for a long time and in many parts of the world. They make excellent sounding duets that can be played in numerous styles.
* Celtic Music for Flute and Guitar, Allan Alexander and Jessica Walsh, ADG Productions
This is a collection of twenty folk pieces originating mainly from Scotland and Ireland. The songs span 400 years of folk music as well as five original pieces written by Allan and Jessica. The learning process is eased by an accompanying CD showing how the pieces should be played.
* World Music for Flute and Guitar, Allan Alexander and Jessica Walsh, ADG Productions
This musical journey takes you to the four corners of the globe. There is standard notation and tab for guitar and a separate pull-out performance part for the flute melodies. You can listen to examples of the pieces on the CD that accompanies the book.
* Flute and Guitar Duets for Any Occasion, Mark Hanson, Accent On Music
This is a varied collection of duets in classical, folk, Celtic and jazz styles. The music ranges from easy to challenging playing levels in standard and tab notation. The accompanying CD provides stereo recording with flute and guitar on separate channels so you can practice even when your partner isn't around.
The fiddle is another instrument that works well with the guitar. It has been widely used in many styles of folk music. The song books below give you several styles to try.
* The Latin American Fiddler, Edward Huws Jones, Boosey & Hawkes
The exotic blend of Latin-American music with its Spanish, African and indigenous influences is great fun to play. This intermediate level collection of violin songs includes chords that can be played by guitar or piano.
* Jazz, Blues and Ragtime (Violin Edition), Edward Huws Jones, Boosey & Hawkes
This collection of favourite jazz and blues songs is suitable for all playing levels. It includes easy violin parts and guitar chords, as well as more sophisticated string arrangements for more advanced players. Songs include ever popular hits such as The Entertainer, Take Five, Makin' Whoopee, House Of The Rising Sun.
* The Christmas Fiddler, Edward Huws Jones, Boosey & Hawkes
It's always a good idea to have a few Christmas songs to play. This collection includes seven hundred years of songs from the medieval Song of the Ass, through traditional carols such as Away In A Manger and O Little Town Of Bethlehem through to the modern Sleigh Ride.
The harmonica is an ever popular instrument that has often been associated with the guitar in folk, rock and blues. Give your rock guitar skills a workout with these titles.
* Pop Rock Favourites For Harmonica, Bobby Joe Holman, Hal Leonard
Seventeen pop rock hits arranged for harmonica with guitar chords and tab. Pretty Woman, Blueberry Hill, Yakety Yak and Runaway are among the titles in this collection.
* Beatles Greatest Hits Harmonica Songbook, Hal Leonard
27 Beatles songs arranged with melody line, harmonica notation, guitar chords and lyrics. Performance notes are given for each song. Favourite hits include Eleanor Rigby, Get Back, Help, Let It Be, Michelle.
* Blues Harmonica Collection, Hal Leonard
Practice the classic sound of blues guitar and harmonica with forty classic blues tunes from the likes of Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson and Howlin' Wolf.
Instrumentalists with melody instruments will be delighted to have an accompaniment to play to. If you want to make yourself a useful and popular guitarist who's always in demand spend some time to learn an accompaniment repertoire. You'll have far more people wanting to play with you than the guy playing flashy guitar leads.
What album downloads are complete rip-offs compared to other albums?
I can think of four:
-Weird Tales of the Ramones: For the same price of the download, you could also get a DVD and an oversized comic book
-Let the Dominoes Fall by Rancid (especially the deluxe edition): For two dollars less, you could get the same thing with three posters, a DVD and collectible guitar picks
-rearviewmirror by Pearl Jam: I've seen the same thing, but in physical copy for half-price.
-The Metallica Colletion: Seriously, the whole Metallica discograpy for $99? Chances are that the people willing to buy it already have a lot of it.
I thought the metallica thing was crazy when I heard that.
I wouldn't pay that :p

A Brief Look At Wrenches
With the multitude of rachets, gear, and combination wrenches to choose from, it is often hard to know which tool is best for the job that is being done. When looking for the tools that will be best for a home improvement or do-it-yourself project, it is important that you do some research into the type of tools available and their specific purpose.
When you are looking for the right tools, it will be important to think about the types of tools that you want to get and the what you will be using them for. A person who is going to be using the rachets, mostly in the home, will find that a less expensive set of tools will be as effective as the more industrial tools that are used commonly for larger jobs.
When you are selecting the proper tools for your project, it is often necessary to buy a set of tools that have a variety of sizes. The sets usually come with sockets or rachets measuring from 7/16" to 3/4". This is that standard size of American bolts and nuts. However, the tools are also made in Metric measurements for those jobs that require repair of foreign parts.
When you have a special job that will require a size of rachet that you may not have, it is possible to get specially made rachets and other wrenches through a manufacturer or online source. These professionals often have a diverse size of tools available and, when they do not have the size in stock, they usually know where they can get it. This is extremely helpful for industrial size projects where the nuts and bolts used to create the building are irregular.
The "S" shaped wrench is extremely useful. These wrenches are flat and do not have the weight of the heavy, heat treated steel, but are made from steel. They are very easy to handle in tight places. In addition, the tools do not wear out and are often being used several years after purchase.
When you need a special tool for a job, there are many choices available through online sources. You can get a boxhead design wrench that has a fifteen degree offset head that is an excellent tool for odd or irregular areas. There are also special tools made for use in particularly tight areas. The handle of the tool moves easily with a back and forth motion that makes it very easy to tighten or loosen bolts and nuts.
Investing in a good set of wrenches is an investment that will give you continual return on your investment throughout your life. In many cases, individuals find different types and sizes of tools in sheds and garages long after a person is deceased. These heavy duty tools are a staple for a home and can be used for virtually any project.
How do you set a click type torque wrench?
I found an old torque wrench in my new apartment. Probably left behind by the previous tenants. Anyhow I did research online and determined that it's a click type and by turning the dial on the bottom of the handle I can set the desired torque. The only thing I can't figure out is the numbers on the handles and how to set it to the torque I want.
The numbers on the handle are:
840 960
600 720
360 480
120 240
The numbers on the dial are:
0 8 6 4 2 0
Can anyone help me learn how to work this thing.
Thank you
Those are some weird numbers for a torque wrench. it will say stamped at the top of the numbers what the rating is in. the dial numbers are in steps of 2 for the rating stamped, the top pf the rotating circle indicates the set torque by resting on the scored part of the tree where the numbers are stamped. i think it's rated in inch pounds. 120 in/lbs = 10 foot pounds, 240=20 ft/lbs- ect. to convert the torque to ft/lbs, just divide by 12. or to convert to the torque you need, multiply your foot-pound requirement by 12. say you need 50 ft/lbs. 50x12= 600 in/lbs. ther you go, but look at the top of the imprinted lowe handle for the units. if it says in/lbs, i am correct.

St. Louis Cardinals - Getting to Know the St. Cardinal No-Hitter Pitchers
Different sports have jargons. It is hard to understand the annotators of the game if you have no clue what they are talking about. They specifically use terms that describe the actions of the players. For example, in American football, when the player in possession of the ball looses the ball, it is termed as fumble. In volleyball, when a player saves the ball from the powerful spike of the opponent, it is termed as a dig. In basketball, when the defensive player gets hold of the ball from the opposing player while dribbling the ball or transitioning to a play, they call it a steal. There are many terms used when you want to talk about a particular sport. They term it rather than describing it because it speeds up communication among players and coaches during time-outs.
Baseball is also a game with its own terms. No-hitter is one of them. This is describes a particular player who prevents the other team from making a hit and is commonly expected of a pitcher. Not all of them have this ability but the St. Louis Cardinals pitchers did. They had nine of them who were able to make 10 no-hitters. If you want to know them, check them out below:
1. Bob Forsch- He was made two no-hitter pitches back in 1978 and 1983. He is one of the greatest pitchers in the MLB because of his ability to shutout teams and his 67 complete games. No wonder this person deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.
2. Bob Gibson- This person played for the team from 1959-1975. He pitched for the team and played for two World Series, at the same time became MVP in those wins.
3. Bud Smith- He achieved this when he was still a rookie. It was in 2001 that he did not allow a single batter from San Diego Padres to hit one of his pitches.
4. Jesse Haines- This person threw a no-hitter in 1924. That was the game against the Atlanta Braves. He pitched for two World Series Titles and he is now a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
5. Jose Jimenez- He only spent a year with the team and had his no-hitter pitch against the Arizona team back in 1999. Unfortunately, this person was tested for prohibited substances and was found to be using them. Because of this, he was kicked out from the league.
6. Paul Dean- He made the Detroit Tigers very disappointed when he made sure that none of them would hit the ball in the 1934 World Series. He only stayed with the St. Louie Cardinals for 5 years, wherein he had the best moments of his career.
7. Lorn Warneke- His no-hitter pitch occurred in 1941 with the game against Cincinnati Reds. He had another no-hitter pitch but it occurred during his playing years with The Cubs.
8. Ray Washburn-His no-hitter pitch occurred in 1968 during their match with the San Fransisco Giants. He pitched for one World Series and three National League Championships.
9. Ted Breitenstein- He threw a no-hitter in 1891 during their match against the Louisville Colonel and 1898 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He pitched for one New League Era Championships and was named 2-time winner of a National League Leader for pitching a complete game.
How do I stop my guitar from screeching?
I use a Line 6 spider III half stack and I have two guitars, one being a Les Paul Junior and the other a Washburn x9 (Strat Shape)
When I crank it up on the metal channel while playing my les paul, I have no problem at all, but I use the Washburn through the metal channel I have to keep the amp at low volume otherwise it will feedback like crazy, and I mean a screeching feedback! Muting the strings does not help at all and if I just sit there and let the screech peirce my ears for about 5 seconds, it will randomly stop.
This only happens when I use the humbucker, which is a stock humbucker by the way. Though it is stock it is really good and it gives me a great sound.
Should I do anything to the pickup or what? Perhaps its a wiring problem?
Definitely sounds like it's an issue with the guitar, since your other one behaves fine at the same setting.
I assume you have tried the obvious (as you should always do), test with other guitars as well, change leads and power strips, play in other locations - other rooms in the house, the same guitars on other amps, play at different angles and distances from the amp etc?
In any case, this sounds like a faulty pickup. Some times a pickup can become what is called microphonic. It may then behave like you describe here.
Here's more info about microphonic pickups (scroll down the page):
http://zone.guitarsite.de/pickup.htm
The cure is to wax the pickup (definitely a job for someone who knows what they're doing), or change the pickup all together.
I suggest you check the things above, as well as described on the other site. Then you should probably take the guitar to a qualified repair person.
