How To Start A Work-At-Home Laser Engraving Business
I'm going to show you the ropes, the basics of what you need to know about starting up a work-from-home laser engraving business. It doesn't take a lot of money to get started. Laser machines and laser systems are relatively simple to operate. You can usually start up a business pretty fast because the system is easy to use. Whether you want to work full time or part-time you can make a good living.
Getting started setting up your business is easy. First, you'll need to get proper training. Check out your local community or junior colleges and see if they offer classes in laser engraving. Check the 'yellow pages' and see if there are any local shops or businesses in which you can get a part-time job to learn the business. Then you'll need to buy laser machines, systems and engraving equipment and supplies. You'll need to buy a laser engraver and a compatible computer.
Consider buying some used laser equipment. Call any companies that you can find locally and see of they have any machines, systems or equipment to sell or if they plan to go out of business. If you have cash set aside for your business try to buy one of the newer laser engravers that has a good warranty. High quality equipment will last a lot longer and will have fewer problems.
Some of the laser engraving businesses specialize in promotional engraving; that is - they make promotional business items engraved with company logos. Your customers should know that engraved promotional items are a great way to create fast, personalized items to distribute to their clients and/or employees. This is far less costly than what they would spend on pre-engraved promotional items.
The laser engraving systems of a few years ago were large, difficult to run and maintain. Laser machines and systems today are simple to learn, operate, and maintain. They are affordable now for small businesses. And today's systems have less safety issues. They are sealed and a constant flow of gas is not necessary as was required in the old systems.
They also have faster engraving speeds and have more options to choose from. The cost of laser machines and systems is quite a bit lower than for the older machines. The most important difference between the new and old systems is the interfacing of laser engraving equipment with computers.
How it works: the laser engraving system is connected to a computer with a parallel printer cable. A laser machine driver is installed into the computer. The artwork is produced in a graphics program or scanned in with a scanner. The laser dealer or manufacturer can help you with selecting the best computer that is the most compatible with the new laser engraving system. The more capabilities the system has the more you will be able to do.
You need to get a demonstration of laser engraving and cutting systems so you can understand what table size and tube wattage you'll require for the projects you plan to do.
To learn more about laser engraving technology, look for industry trade journals. Laser industry directories will help you find manufacturers of new equipment.
Many people who have work at home or small laser engraving businesses only engrave part-time. So if you decide to start up your own laser engraving business you don't have to leave your day job. Once you get your business going you can start to build your business into a successful home business.
A laser engraving business is a good choice for anyone who wants to start a work-at-home business or an outside-the-home business because the start up costs are low. You can start small and slowly grow and add equipment as demand for your products increase.

Would you like to earn an extra $200.00 or more monthly?
Would you like to earn an extra $200.00 or more monthly?
Need extra income? The following items have helped me earn extra income and I hope they’ll give you ideas on how to make extra income. As any mother of a teenager (a boy) knows it’s hard to keep food in the house and I’m a single mom on top of it. It helps if you have a goal. Mine was to help afford putting food on the table.
Note: If you don’t have internet access at home then use your local library. You can use a flash drive (you can buy one pretty cheap) to download pictures off your home computer. Then take to your local library and upload to site you want to advertise your items for sale on.
Ways to find items to sell.
-First start with things around your house you want to get rid of. I had an older treadmill and a single mattress (that was rarely used. It was from the top of bunk bed that we were getting rid of) that I just wanted to get rid of and I wanted to save money by not having to pay to get rid of (what happens if you live in condo). The treadmill was still working and I put it on Craigslist for free and within minutes people were calling. It was picked up the next morning. Same thing with the mattress. I was going to put out for trash and my son said why not put it on Craigslist so I did. This time I didn’t put my phone number cause I found out the first time that people will call at midnight to see if still available. My email was full within 5 minutes of posting and the mattress was gone within a couple of hours. I also felt good that I helped a single mom of 5 who needed a mattress desperately.
-Craigslist.com—look for free or low cost items (that are close by) to resell. I bought an acoustic guitar for 20.00 and resold it for 75.00 (I also happen to know brand names of guitars so that I knew it was a bargain). I only look for close to home items unless I know that the seller will hold it for me and it’s worth the time and gas money to travel.
-Dumpsters at townhouse/condo complex’s. People that are moving or just buying new tend to put things out next to a dumpster or on the curb. They don’t want to be bothered selling things…they just want to get rid of things (sometimes they’re not so old). I saw a coffee table that was in great condition so I threw in back of my car and posted on Craigslist (which is free) and sold it for 45.00.
-Thrift stores. Look for items that you know their worth such as collectables or antiques and resell on Craigslist.com, Ebay.com or Amazon.com. People love collectables. I know and have sold books (purchased for 0.25) which I listed on Amazon.com—which is a great place to sell books. You just put in barcode of book and sit back.
-Garage sales/Flea markets. Great place to find bargains. People want to get rid of stuff. I purchased a bike for 5.00 at the end of the day. Spray painted it and resold for 20.00. I also purchased a wrought iron door knocker for 2.00 (later found out I couldn’t use it cause I live in a condo and they wouldn’t approve it). It had an engraved date and initials on back so I don’t know if that was what made it valuable. I put it on Ebay and it sold for 72.00. Now that was a surprise.

Engravable Pens and Other Great Gift Ideas for the Urban Male
Finding a great gift for a girl friend does not take longer than 20 minutes. Whether you are browsing through online shops, or you are milling around the department store. You can give a girl a dainty hair brush, a set of handkerchief, a lovely stuffed toy, engravable pens or an exquisite angel figurine, and she would accept it with a huge, sincere grin. Finding presents for a girl is fun, uncomplicated and rewarding. Nothing beats seeing the look on your girl friend's face as she opens your lovely, albeit cheap, gift.
Males, on the other hand, are a bit more complicated to please. If finding a present for a girl takes, at most, 20 minutes, finding a guy some gift will take nearly an entire day. Even finding something to engrave on engravable pens for males takes a lot longer. Whatever the occasion, whether it is Christmas, Valentine's day, birthdays or weddings, finding testosterone-friendly gifts can be quite an ordeal.
So, to ease up on your worries, here are five great gift ideas for the urban male. Before you browse any further through some online gift shoppe or head right down to the mall, better read this:
1. Perfumes
Choose perfumes with known brands, not the real cheap ones that seem like cologne mixed with water. Be careful in choosing this gift item, though, because the Internet is flooded with fake perfume brands. What are the most famous perfume brands among males? You can go for Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Clinique and Courvioser. With perfumes, you can not go wrong. Well, unless the recipient is allergic to perfumes that is. If so, you can always opt for pocket business card holders or a silver business card case.
2. Leather wallets
These are probably one of the most widely given gifts for males in the history of mankind. You can give your dad, your brother, your uncle, your boyfriend, your teacher, your grandfather and your kids leather wallets, and they will surely appreciate it. Finding a leather wallet is hassle-free. You can find tons of it in department stores or on the Web. Go for real leather -- these are a lot sturdier than the knock-offs. When shopping online, be sure to find a reliable online seller. When shopping in malls... well, it would be a lot easier since you could immediately tell if the wallet is real leather or not.
3. Engravable pens
The ever reliable engravable pens. This one ought to top the list. Engravable pens are actually more popular gift ideas than leather wallets. Engravable pens can be given to just about anyone -- any male that is. Find quality pens, such as Parker or Cross, just to make sure the engravable pen is extra special. Now for that harder part, what do you usually engrave on those pens? Names are a bit too common. Proverbs and inspirational quotes are way too cheesy for the male species. So what do you engrave on the pens? You could merely engrave one word which means something really special to the recipient. For instance, you can put in "Dad" on your dad's engravable pen.
How could I make my own clay or concrete christian cross?
I saw this really cool hanging cross that is concrete and it has rocks placed in it and writing engraved.... I want to make something like this, how hard would that be? I was thinking of using glass instead of rocks. Is there a way I could make a mold and then poor concrete into it or something? I can easily pick up supplies at Michael's or something... help
This is only a partial answer. Because clay and concrete are both highly breakable, you will need to form an armature first, around which to construct your cross. Something like an old coat hanger would do, if you can get the straight bits straight enough.
On the horizontal arms, I'd suggest adding a loop at each end. The vertical arms should have a kind of loop at both ends too. (The bottom one is to prevent the clay, if it breaks, from slipping off.)
Then to hang the finished result, you could easily put fishing line or a chain (probably not string) from the three top loops to suspend it with some degree of stability.
There is also very lightweight acrylic "clay" which can be baked in the oven once finished. These come in a variety of colours and can make really pretty sculptures -- and probably would be light enough to avoid a complete armature. (I'd still make the horizontal one, with loops at the end.)
Have fun!
