Is There a Difference in Picture Quality Between Hdmi, Component, Dvi, and S-video Connections?
When making your new plasma connections in the installation of your television, you’ll want to carefully consider what type of connecting cables you’ll use. There are several different kinds available each with its own plusses and minuses. Whichever you choose you’ll want to make sure that it will provide the best audio and video connections in order for you to enjoy the full capabilities of your plasma TV.
The HDMI connections will provide a crisp, clear picture on your television. They provide a good, clear audio and video connection for a clear picture and crisp sound. These connectors need only one cable and are compatible with the newer versions of the receivers, game stations, HD DVD players, etc. In addition to being compatible with the newer technologies they are also compatible with the older versions of these technologies.
A DVI connection is one that is compatible with both analog and digital video. This connection will provide a crisp, clear video display on your television. Most television receivers, DVD players, set top boxes, etcetera have ports for this type of connection included in their design. This makes this type of connection versatile when used with several types of receivers, DVD players, etc.
A component connection is one that is primarily used with high definition receivers and television sets. These component cables are also compatible with many newer DVD players and Set top boxes. These cables are being phased out of analog receivers and television sets altogether. They provide excellent video quality when used with high quality equipment and cables.
An S-video connector creates a video display in a different way from others. It separates the white color and other colors into different cables, then brings them back together through the one connector in the television, receiver, DVD player, or Cable TV box. This cable is not used with high definition television so it will not help you with television sets that include HD. With a good cable and unfaltering connection, an S-video cable will give you a crisper and clearer picture than you may have had without it.
The biggest difference in these cables is the equipment with which they are used. Each cable has a decent review in the area of video, but only HDMI includes audio in its connection. The other cables focus only in the area of video. You would not want to use an S video cable if you have high definition capability, but the other connectors will work well with high definition. Depending on your needs, each of the connectors are good in at least one aspect of your television connections.

The Unseen Pitch: More Baseball Stories And Baseball Songs From The Gowell's
Don't forget if you're interested in hearing more from Ace Diamond the guitar slinging baseball singer of the baseball diamond visit him at the official ace diamond website – www.acediamond.info – you can sign up there to download free Baseball Songs and ripping baseball tales and yarns.
Well, you've probably read about (The Gowell's) Baseball Songs and Baseball Stories and we're still telling the story of the trip to Oneonta N.Y. "Larry & Dick" on their way to join the Oneonta N.Y. Penn League squad. Just after "Larry" signed a pro contract (chosen in the 4TH round of the 1967 baseball amateur draft by the Yanks.) considered one of the best drafts ever! "Dick' aka Ace Diamond also signed a free agent contract with scout Pat Colgan. Both players were assigned to Oneonta to play pro ball!
Now you probably read about the family trip (Mom, Dad Dick & Larry & their dog Lucky)arriving in Oneonta and getting the boys into their new apartment, It was an exciting time even though they got lost a couple of times they actually did arrive and couldn't wait to "Play Ball"
The next day they met their teammates from all across the country. Manager "Frank Verdi" was there to greet them .Frank was great fiery skipper, who was liked and respected greatly by the team! The 25 man roster was set and after a few days of practice came opening day at home & it was an exciting time for both brothers embarking on a professional career!
( I ) "Dick"(who was a back up outfielder)recalls one night game at Home (we had decent lighting for a minor league park) mid-July (1967) when Larry, who was a starting pitcher, was on the mound. Keep in mind he was a side-winder that ALL righties hated to face! Larry's arsenal included a great fastball and a unhittable slider & a change up!..But this "Special Night” he was simply overpowering! A fellow teammate "Johnson", a savvy draftee from the a big southern college was "perched up on the dugout steps along with most of the Oneonta team"; because we all realized Larry had "special stuff that night" ! He was throwing unbelievable smoke that night! His Brother "Dick" was a witness (from the dugout) that night. Seeing him pitch many remarkable games before, but this night "Larry" was incredible! About halfway through the game he uncorked this "one particular pitch" and "Johnson jumped up & exclaimed!! ".Guys! What was that? Did you see that pitch? What the Hell was that? .No, his brother didn't see it either and nobody else in the dugout saw it! (Just heard an "explosion when it hit the mit!” Nobody but the Catcher saw it! Wow! The batter looked stunned after being called out, carried the lumber back to the bench in a daze! We won the game, But that "ONE PITCH"(heard 'round the world" (at least around our world) That one pitch ("THE UNSEEN PITCH!)" that none of the Oneonta team saw "really made our night!"
* Special Note: Larry was on the Yanks major league roster for four years in a row (1970-1973) and broke many minor league records in his seven year career/appeared in the Majors in 1972!.."Larry" holds the all time record for most pitches in a professional game. Elmira, N.Y.(AA) 1971- a completed 14-inning win (throwing an unbelievable 242 pitches ** One spring (Early 70's) ..Major league outfielder "Curt Blefary" after an tough session in the batting cage. could be heard muttering to himself ("Garcia, Lemon, Fellar & Gowell!) Which was reported in the sports section of the N.Y.Times!
Don't forget you can hear lots of great Baseball Songs and read about baseball stories on Ace Diamond's website where he has a new album: “Playin' Ball”. To know more about the Baseball Stories and music you can log on to us at: http://www.acediamond.info
What kind of kite is your favorite?
Yesterday was an absolutely perfect day in my neighborhood and my 12-year-old friend pushed me into walking to the beach. When I got there a little boy named Casey was having a hard time getting his kite in the air. His cousins had gotten their kites entangled with each other. I hadn't flown one in years, but these were nice ones with string winders. Casey and I had his kite in the air in no time, and with a lesson from me he is now convinced he is a pro. His cousin had a bit tougher time, but I fixed the balance and his was soon up in the air. However, he didn't have 1/4 of the patience of Casey who, for all I know, is still flying his. Now I am hooked. I have been reading up on all the new-fangled kites since yesterday.
Please tell me what your favorites are and where I can get the best deals!
There is one kite which is the king of kites.
It is made from common newsprint and thin slivers of bamboo or reed. I have long loved these fragile beauties, and dreamed if having a village contest sponsored by a newspaper.
So how about an international contest, sponsored by hundreds of newspapers?

Seven Common Fallacies About Guitar Playing
There are many common misconceptions by people about learning the guitar. However, they are all incorrect. Here is the reasons:
One: You should practice on an acoustic guitar.
NO!: It is better to practice on an electric guitar since it’s easier to play, has lighter strings, lower action, and a smaller neck. It’s also a little more interesting for first time players as you can add distortions and effects and keep the learner more interested.
Second: The best way to ‘get’ a famous band sound is buy a pedal that has player presets.
Truth: Although some multi-effects DO have some important presets, it is far better to learn the correct technique rather than trying to imitate the sound. Generally the sound of the incredible players comes from their spirit, their skill, and choice of guitar and amp. (Rarely do these guys use digital effects to create their sounds.
Three: You have to have a gigantic amp to get a large sound.
NO!: Some of the most huge sounds that have been recorded have been done with smaller 10 -20 watt amps with the tube made very loud. Many infamous bands have many amps on stage that are empty of speakers and a small amp hidden behind the stack that is mic’d up to the PA system. Some bands are also using digital recreations (POD, Digitech etc) of their amps in the studio but most purist players still use a real amp and analogue pedals.
Fourth: You should use lots of ‘string wrap or turns’ around the machine (tuning) head to get stable tuning.
Wrong!: Although B.B. King does use this method a better way is to have about 3 ‘turns’ of string on the machine head and about 3-4 turns on the higher strings. However, the best way is to have NO turns of string at all, buy using locking machine heads such as spertzel or grover *machine head where the string is literally locked into place without any string wrap.
Myth: Single coil pick ups sound the best but they are too noisy.
Truth: Yes and yes (possibly depending on your opinion) but there are many ways around this problem. The best way is to use hum canceling single coil pickups such as “fender noiseless” or any of the di marzio or Seymour Duncan hum canceling models that will sound JUST like a vintage strat but without the noise. The other way is to put a “dummy load” pickup in the guitar. ie: a pick up that is wired in the guitar (sometimes under the scratch plate of a strat type guitar) but does not produce any sound , it just cancels the hum and noise.
Myth: Cheap cables are just as good as expensive ones and I save money.
Truth: It is way better to buy a good quality cable that has, quite often, a good guarantee. It will often last a long time and the difference in the quality has a huge bearing on the actual sound produced by your guitar and amp. It is no use having a great guitar and amp set up, and using low quality cable. Its like buying a Ferrari and putting re-tread tires on it. Always buy the best quality cable you can afford. Quite often you end up buying one good cable instead of cheap ones every 6 months, rendering them not cheap at all in the long run.
Seven: There is nothing you can do about strings rusting and losing their tone so may as well buy cheap ones or no name brands.
Wrong!: there are several ways to make your string last longer. The simplest is to always clean your strings after playing with a lint free cloth such as a handkerchief and use a string product such as “finger ease” or “fast fret” which coats the string with a protective chemical.
The other way is to use long life strings such as ‘elixir’ or similar brands which use a Teflon coating to prevent string corrosion and loss of tone. Yes these strings are three times more expensive but they do, in my experience last eight (8) times longer and rarely do they break as often as regular strings.
Do the fender headphones which come with the squier frontman 15g amp actually plug into the amp??
I'm new to guitars, i just got one on the 9th of june, i brought the squier affinity strat and frontman 15g amp package. It came with headphones and the amp has a jack in it which says headphone jack but the slot is the size of the guitar cable which goes into the input while the headphones have the same input thing as the slots you get with ipods and mp3 players and such? Can anyone please help clarify this to me?
You need to get a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter. You can get them at Radioshack or similar for a couple of dollars. Strange that they wouldn't include one with the package.
