Is there a guitar effects box that will make a solid body sound like an archtop?
I'm trying to get a jazz tone from my solid body Les Paul.
Uhhh... not really. You can go to a music store and ask for an archtop effect, or a box that has one in it, but you won't really get an archtop sound any more than the "acoustic simulator" boxes will give you an acoustic sound. The only true way to get the archtop sound is out of an archtop guitar (and don't we all just have thousands of dollars lying around?). I can only recommend this: on your Les Paul, use the neck pickup (rhythm) and turn the tone down to around 2 or 3 and the volume up, on a clean setting on your amplifier. It won't sound like an archtop, but it will get you as close as an effect will, and you won't have to spend money on it.

Know anything about Norma Barney Kessel guitars?
I have a Norma Barney Kessel double cut with split pickups. I have searched the internet and found precious little about it except that it is rare and was produced somewhere between 1965 and 1970. I'm trying to figure out value of the instrument. Any clues?
I checked out myrareguitars.com and found a picture and a statement that it was rare. I was hoping for some info from somebody who actually knows about the guitars in greater detail.
Well, as you probably know, the most popular guitar to ever bear Barney's name was produced by Gibson.

What is the difference between a fender jazz bass and a fender precision bass?
In the future I am planning on buying a fender bass. I can't really decide which right now though. I already own an Ibanez SRP400, a discontinued model. I play mostly rock and metal, and a little bit of acoustic, but I might just buy an acoustic bass as well for that. Anyway, I've seen a few models that I am interested in such as the Aerodyne jazz bass and the discontinued Big Block precision bass. An american deluxe precision bass might be good too, but it's a little bit above my budget. I don't really like the basic precision and jazz basses, because it seems everyone has one, so I want one just a little bit uncommon. I'd like to know what might be best for me.

What strings does Geddy Lee use?
I just bought my Geddy Lee Jazz Bass about three months ago, and it's time to change the strings. I think he uses Rotosound swing bass 66 strings, but I wanted to make sure before I went and bought them. Thanks!

Trip to Chicago - Need some suggestions for blues/jazz clubs?
I am planning a trip to Chicago in the fall. The dates are still undecided, but it will be some time in October. I want to go to some of the local blues clubs, especially those "hole-in-the-wall" type places. Also need other "don't miss" and "definitely avoid" tips. Where are the centrally located and safe hotels for two women travelers.

As for hotels, I have Pricelined 4 star hotels on Michigan Avenue routinely for $40 - $70 per night. Nice places too -- Hilton, Wyndham, Embassy Suites, Sheraton, Marriott.
