Do all guitars have serial numbers?
I bought my fender jazz bass on ebay a couple of years ago but now want to sell it but i cant find a serial number on it to find out about it. is there a reason it doesnt have one. it has 4 patent numbers on head but thats all i can find
i just unscrewed the neck plate and took off the neck. all it says is "made in japan" and "all parts licened by fender" no serial number
Yes they do. It's located on the the neck plate where the body bolts on to the head or neck of the guitar. It gives the year, style of guitar, where it was manufactured.

Clamping Down on the Use of Trademarks as Key Words
When Internet users search online for information, they use search engines like Yahoo, Google, and MSN. Because some page owners have paid for some of its links to the search engine websites and the links come up whenever the website owners results appear as a search result, there have recently been conflicts between the owners of trademarks and some third parties. Efforts are being made to clamp down and contain the unauthorized utilization and misappropriation of trademarks and other intellectual property items when it comes to Internet search related issues.
In one such trademark conflict, J.S. Wentworth complained that Peachtree Settlement Funding infringed the trademarks JG WENTWORTH and J.G.WENTWORTH. The Defendant had used these trademarks as keywords and had paid to have links appear to its own website immediately proximate to the link to Plaintiff's website on the search-results screen each time a user of the Internet searched the Google engine for J.G. Wentworth or JG Wentworth.
Because Peachtree Settlement Funding and J.G. Wentworth are competitors in the field of structured settlements, Plaintiff claimed that Defendant had stolen potential customers and diluted the effectiveness of its various trademarks, and that this caused a subtantial profit loss for the plaintiff. Defendant Peachtree moved to have the complaint dismissed.
The court acknowledged two important operative issues:
1. Whether Defendant used the trademark as keywords in the Google AdWords advertising program under the Trademark Acts use in commerce. Owner of a trademark establishes rights through the use of the trademark in public marketplace.
2. Whether the use of the Plaintiff's trademark infringed trademark rights provided for in the Act because it had a good chance of confusing the consumer.
On whether the trademark was used in commerce, Defendant argued that the trademarks use was not for the public to see, and was not meant to be associated to Peachtree Settlement Funding, only an analog to the users personal response to a trademark. Defendant claimed it was not used in commerce in connection with the sale of goods or services to confuse consumers. Disagreeing, the court decided that Defendants use of the trademarks as keywords in their Google AdWords links, designed to draw internet users, constituted use in commerce under the Act.
Regarding infringement, however, Defendant argued that using the J.G. WENTWORTH trademarks as keywords was not likely to confuse the consumer. Here the court agreed, and stated [a]t no point are potential consumers taken by a search engine to defendants website...the links to defendants website always appear as independent and distinct links on the search result pages. There was also no accusation that the Defendants ads and links that used the Plaintiffs were in any way discernable to [I]nternet users and potential customers, and that [d]ue to the separate and distinct nature of the links created on any of the search results pages in question, potential customers have no opportunity to confuse defendants services, goods, advertisements, links or websites for those of plaintiff. The court then decided that the use of Plaintiffs trademarks was not trademark infringement under the Trademark Act and the court dismissed the complaint.
The J.G. Wentworth v. Settlement Funding case confirms that it is not copyright infringement to use other companies trademarks in their online advertising keywords, in the opinion of this Pennsilvania court. Similar decisions have been made by other courts as well, including California, New York, and Virginia, and the Second Court of Appeals.
However, its important also that online advertisers such as Google AdWords and the trademark owners be aware that the issues of trademark infringement on these ads has not been resolved nationwide. Some courts have decided that purchase of a keyword does constitute use in commerce, and some have not reached a conclusion regarding the question of likelihood of consumer confusion. Other courts, such as New Jersey, California, Georgia, Minnesota, and the ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, have focused on the facts at trials instead of addressing the issues of use in commerce.
In general, however, the courts seem to side with the advertisers who use the keywords rather than the owners of trademarks, although it may be a while before the issue is fully resolved.
I BROKE ONE OF MY KEYS ON MY LAPTOP......?
One of my keys been broken for awhile now and I tried to
glue it back on, it got on the inside where the hardware is it now does not work and I need a new clamp for the key also, what do I do ?
Is there a new key I can buy or is it completely broken?

i dont know alot about what you can do but i jnow one thing
yoou can try a normall keyboard but it is probally not the same

Truss Rods: Good Posture For Guitars
There are a great many physical components that make up a guitar. Some, such as strings and fingerboards, are obvious. Others, like nuts, are less apparent, but they are still visible. But some guitar components cannot be seen at all because they are hidden inside of the instrument. This is the case with the truss rod, a metal rod that runs along the inside of a guitar's neck. This part of the guitar has existed since at least the early 1900s, although it was not patented until 1921. Despite the fact that a truss rod cannot be seen, it is still an essential part of a guitar, one that can add both quality and longevity to an instrument.
Ideally, the neck of a guitar should have a slight relief, or bow. Such a shape allows for reasonably low action (more on this later) in the high fingerboard positions while still allowing the strings to ring clearly in the low positions. A truss rod is essential to maintaining that optimum relief. As mentioned, the truss rod runs along the inside of the guitar neck. Each rod has a mechanism that allows the rod to be loosened (moved toward the guitar's body) or tightened (moved further up into the guitar's neck). The position of the rod can be made to compensate for changes in the neck's relief. Such changes can be caused by various factors: changes in humidity, the aging of the neck's wood or additional tension in the guitar's strings. It is this last factor that most often creates the need for the truss rod.
Truss rods are not found in acoustic guitars because they are not required. The nylon strings of such instruments do not require very high tension, which means that the instruments' necks are not overly stressed. Steel strings, on the other hand, require much higher tension. Because the tension is so high, it can actually cause the guitar's neck to warp over a period of time, sometimes to a point beyond repair. A truss rod helps to counteract this effect by strengthening and straightening the neck.
Tightening a truss rod will also affect the intonation of a guitar. When the rod is tight, it straightens the neck, which causes the guitar's strings to move closer to the fingerboard. Contrarily, when the rod is loosened, the neck bows forward and the strings move further away. The distance of the strings from the fingerboard affects the manner in which the instrument operates, or the "action," and this is one determinant in an instrument's sound.
When a truss rod is of the "dual-action" variety, it means that the rod can be both tightened and loosened. Not all rods go both ways: all of them can be tightened, but standard truss rods can only be loosened up to a certain point because in most cases, guitars necks need to be straightened rather than allowed to bend. With a dual-action truss rod, both tightening and loosening are possible, which means that the neck can be made to bend either forward or backward.
simular patent?
I have a device that im thinking of patenting but there's a similar device that does the same functions but it has a very different design. Also why cant the inventor of the guitar sue companies making guitars because it does the same functions.
If there was an inventor of the guitar with a valid patent (patents only off 20 yrs protection), then he could.
I suggest you visit a qualified patent attorney, he can do a patent search for a few hundred $ and tell you if it's possible to patent your device.
In general, patents cover the operation of a device, and it's mechanical construction. They don't cover purely design based issues.
The controlling concept is inventiveness. If the change you have is 'obvious' to one' skilled in the art', then it's not patentable.

Owning A BMW Can Cause Paranoia
There is an issue with some BMW cars whereby the steering lock mechanism is sticking, this is an electronic function and has affected cars including the 325i M Sport.
The problem arises when you insert the key and get ready to use the push button start, the dashboard is illuminated with a red steering when symbol and the push button start is disabled.
This happened to me several times a day for a few days and in the end I got stuck in Brighton after I stopped at a post office to ask for directions, I came back out got into my car and the malfunction happened. To my horror repeated attempts to start the car failed and in the distance I saw a wheel clamping van attaching a clamp to a vehicle parked just like me.
I opened the door and to my horror I realised that I was indeed parked on a clamping zone and it looked as though the clamp radar had spotted me. I quickly popped my bonnet so as to look as though I was visually on a breakdown but felt the eyes of a truly dedicated clamper burning into me from a distance.
I was late for an important meeting and was already thinking how bad the day was turning out, I had to think fast because I felt vulnerable and knew how clampers just love to immobilise smart sporty cars. I looked furtively from under my bonnet and could see he suddenly sprang into action.
I was horrified, I could see I was going to be the next victim, hurriedly I jumped back into my car, I repeatedly disengaged and re-engaged the key trying to somehow stimulate the electronic push button start but the steering lock mechanism kept firing in. How was I going to explain this at the meeting, thats if I ever got there of course, then I looked up and our eyes met, he had finished and was just sticking his label on the screen of the other car.
In desperation I hopped back out of the car and slammed the bonnet down, sort of feigning that I was ready to go and perhaps he would just drive off. I remembered a nature programme where the Mother bird pretended to be injured to draw the predator away from her nest! If only I had a disabled badge I thought to myself, I saw the van preparing to do a U turn with its lights flashing.
I took my phone out and prepared to make the call cancelling the meeting and also got the BMW rescue me from hell emergency number from the user manual. I could see the look of glee on his face, a self gratifying smirk of satisfaction was spread from one ear to the other and I was at his mercy about to be nailed and become another statistic.
Bloody BMW I thought to myself, why did I ever buy a BMW?
Why did I buy this one?
Why did I not go to the dealer and get them to sort it out when I had the chance?
Why is this happening to me?
Subconsciously I had continued pressing the start and playing with the key then all of a sudden the car started! But to my horror my reflex action in continually pushing the start pushed it again and killed the engine! Argh! Lots of expletives followed, the clamper was parking next to me, taking his time and savouring every moment, he was a connoisseur of the moment, the captive lamb awaiting dispatch.
I waited and composed myself, I crossed everything and gingerly pushed the start one last time, I looked up, this clamper guy had black teeth and big earrings, tattoos and muscles, dirty fingernails and greasy hair.
He gave me a chilling smile and then suddenly it changed, like an executioner falling through thin ice his smile changed to a look of despair. The engine was running, yes! Yes! Yes! You beauty, I love you car I love you BMW! Life is great oh so great, oh yes, clutch in, gear in, 2.5 fuel injected horsepower released and racing, I let the window down all ready gloating, nothing can stop me now!
I stuck my head out ready to give the loser signals to my assailant, the why cant you get a real job, and the just because I have a nice car, lines were running through my head when his deep voice boomed, you alright mate? Just got my jump leads out in case you needed a start, lovely car by the way, I just traded mine in for an M3 always had German cars, just love the engineering!
I stammered, looked sheepish and smiled before saying, thanks for coming over, I thought you had a friendly face, but I think my car is fine now, then I drove off, looking back in my mirror Im sure I could see a look of You got away but I will get you next time sonny!
I reflected on this event after the meeting and realised that owning a nice car can change your perception of other people and situations, it can make you a little arogant and can generate a state of mind where you are convinced everybody is out to get you.
Of course this is not the case... Or is it?

I So glad to find someone else. Rnrcrtooubnoeebit capos! They work just like people. Kyser, because civil construction is nearly identical. $ 15 or $ 18 less, you will be working perfectly. Capo, and still have money left for the call and take I am a big fan of the Capo that because it can work by hand and stored in headstock when it is not needed. I have one of my Kyser close to. 20 years and many fabulous Chinese knock offs for a few years ago. A good choice.
