Why do some people remove their pickup covers?
Why do some people prefer to remove their pickup cover(usually on the bridge pickup)? Does it affect the tone or sound at all?
Most, if not all pickup covers are made from "non-ferrous" (non-magnetic) metal, which means they will NOT adversely affect your magnetic pickup's sound.
Unless you REALLY wanna take em off, leave em on.
They are there to protect.
In the '70's guys were taking em off and it became a fad.
The pickup companies copied the look, but I really don't know any good reasons to take them off?

if i take my pickup covers off my les paul would i have more trouble with feedback?
hi my name is bryce and i want to know if i take my pickup covers off my les paul would i have more trouble with feedback? And if so would a noise gate help because when i use my wah (dunlop original) at high volumes i get a lot of feed back anyway and might purchase a noise gate
Don't purchase a noise gate. Get your guitar properly grounded and shielded, and don't use any more gain than you have to. Don't stand near your amp when you play, and consider upgrading your pickups.
Taking the cover off of your pickups will give them a little more bite, a little more high end - the metal covering shields out some of the highest frequencies.
Pickups have feedback problems most often when they aren't properly potted. No easy way to fix that if you don't know what you're doing.
So... pickups not well-potted, too much gain/volume, EMI interference from the amp itself, or lights, computer, bad power... all this stuff can contribute to feedback and other forms of buzz and hum and noise.
I strongly suggest getting your guitar grounded and shielded first - as long as you aren't using too much gain at too high of volumes, this is 75-85% of the issue.
