can i remove a strat style pickgaurd without unscrewing the pickups?
i have a strat style guitar with two humbuckers and a floyd rose. i need to remove the pickguard to install a killswitch, do i have to unscrew the picups to take it off a little bit?

How do you clean the fretboard and humbucker polepieces on an electric guitar?
I have a solid body Gibson Les Paul Gothic that has been with me for a long time. I love this thing, but it's beginning to show signs of rust on the metal frets and humbuckers. I think it's made out of Mahogany and it has a black finish, is there a specific way I'm supposed to clean it without ruining the paint or warping the wood?

Well if you're cleaning the humbuckers use a soft cloth. But I'd use re cloth first for the body of the guitar. As far as cleaning up the neck you can use some Lemmon oil. I'm not a big fan of it but it works. Or you can buy some fretboard cleaner. And if you want you can take some very fine steel wool an the frets to smooth then down a bit. Hope this helps.

how do you use a pro string winder/cutter?

Changing the strings on a guitar differs a bit from guitar to guitar.
Basically, you have a wire cutter and a string winder in one device.
Some guitars are quite different, so there isn't a step-by-step I could give you that will be 100% correct. There are lots of websites showing the step-by-step.
The knob on the string winder is used to turn the tuning key quickly and easily. You can get multiple turns out of the tuning key in seconds. This will loosen the strings to take them off, and quickly tighten them up when the new ones are on.

Hardcore. personally i would go with the PAF's all around. I have these in one of my Les Pauls. and another option is EMG's they are my favorites in my LP custom and one of my Strats Hope this helps. Let me know what you come up with ben

What's a great electric guitar pickup set-up for varied styles of playing?
I don't know the exact names of the pickups, but my friend Alex uses two clear-sounding pickups and one distort/fuzz pickup so he can play cleanly and distorted and they sound great, is there a better setup than this?
Pickups don't distort in and of themselves - some just tend to sound better distorted than others, I suppose. I think you may be talking about single-coil pickups? It's kinda hard to say from the information you're giving.
The most popular pickup combination in the world is the Seymour Duncan '59 in the neck and JB in the bridge. These are humbuckers. They are overall rather trebly, and the JB has a decent combination of higher output and overall clarity that tends to be pretty versatile.
I think my current setup is pretty versatile, but it doesn't favor metal as well as others... that would be the Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro in the neck and Alternative 8 in the bridge. Slash uses Alnico II Pro's in his guitar, and gets a lot of his distinctive sound from them. The Alt 8 is a good complimentary pickup for it - both are a little more warm and round with a bit of chime/sparkle on the top. The Alt 8 is based on the JB, but has a tighter low end, so is better for rhythm, and less treble, so you don't have that "ice-pick in the brain" syndrome.
I dunno, I don't really want to go much farther and confuse you or point you down the wrong direction. Even with single-coils there are a lot of different options, so I don't want to have an answer that just throws the kitchen sink at you, because that would be a long answer that would probably just confuse you more....
