How many blocks had Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell got in average when they were in their pride?
I know there were no official stats on blocks and steals in early 50's and 60's NBA , just give your own guess
Both Official Scorers and Sportswriters would frequently count the number of blocks that Chamberlain and Russell had during their games, for reporting purposes, even though the NBA did not officially recognize blocked shots as an official stat until the 1973-74 season (the year after Wilt retired).
Estimates vary... a number of players and writers said that Wilt actually blocked more shots than Russell because Wilt would go after almost everything, while Russell would pick his spots. Wilt liked the spectacle of knocking a shot into the bleachers, while Russell would often let his man get off shots during most of the game, and then "decide" to block those same shots in the 4th quarter.
In his first NBA game, vs. the Knicks, Wilt scored 43 points, had 28 rebounds, and according to press reports, blocked 17 shots.
Referees who officiated a lot of Chamberlain's and Russell's games said that both of them probably averaged at least 6-8 blocks per game over their careers, which would put both of them ahead of the "official" all time leaders by a comfortable margin.
Six blocks a game is certainly reasonable, given hundreds of press reports on their games during their careers that address that very topic. Six would be a good minimum estimate. I'm sure there were streaks when they'd average 10-12 per game for a while, I just don't know that they did that for their entire careers, as some have suggested, including many people who followed their careers.
Plus, after a while, opponents would avoid the Chamberlain/Russell patrolled areas near the basket precisely because of the shot-blocking threat . Such evasive maneuvers can often limit the number of shots they actually blocked during certain stretches of their games.
Eight to ten would not be unreasonable. One other reason I say that is because both of these guys were on the court all the time... Wilt averaged 46 min/game over his entire career, while Russell averaged 42 min/game (about 44 to 45 in his prime). So Wilt would only sit out about 1 minute in each half, while Russell would sit about 2 minutes per half. They were out there ALL THE TIME. So 3-4 blocks per half... not unreasonable at all.

After a good Amp and Bookshelf Speakers for a Squeezebox setup?
I've recently bought a Squeezebox and wanted to upgrade my audio setup. Within the budget of about $600au, I'm after a good amp and bookshelf speaker setup.
I don't want a microsystem or giant home theater setup, and would want something that sounds really good within budget and reason. Ideally something which is discrete.
I don't really know whats-what in the audio world, so I'm open to suggestions, tips, pointers and any general info!
Thanks
D
n.b. I've looked into The AudioEngine A5 speakers, but would prefer a amp & speaker combo.
I just bought an Onkyo 5100 system that has 7 speakers a sub and receiver. I love it. Cost about $350 US/ $533 AU from www.amazon.com

can you get the same sound from a hollow-body guitar as u can with a acoustic electric?
I pretty much asked my question above so, if you have any in-site it would be greatly appreciated.
Not really. A hollow body electric is an electric guitar at heart, while an acoustic electric is an acoustic guitar at heart. Most significantly, the acoustic electric uses a piezo pickup under the saddle to faithfully reproduce the acoustic sound. The hollow body electric has standard magnetic pickups for the characteristic electric sound. They are two different sounds.

What does a "scooped mid" mean when referring to pickups?
In particular, many guitarists refer to the pickups on John Mayer's Signature Strat as having a "scooped mid." What does this mean? Can only strat pickups have a scooped mid?
There are at least two ways to produce scooped mid tones: one is via an equalizer and the other is via the pickup itself.
Via an equalizer:
"An equalizer setting used for electric amplified instruments. The midrange frequencies are cut off/scooped out. Used to make the sound fatter, especially for bass slapping and hard overdriven guitar riffing. You can get an awesome heavy metal sound with a high amount of distortion and a midrange scoop. "
from:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=midrange%20scoop
The setting is simple... just turn the lower and upper frequencies up and all of the mid-range freqencies down. Looking at the equalizer, the setting should visually resemble a smile.
The result is the same for any guitar playing through an equalizer set this way.
Via the pickup:
However, in the case of pickups, Meyer's "Big Dipper" pickups accomplish the same thing by cutting out the mid-range frequencies in their design and manufacture. Any pickup can be adjusted or made to "scoop" the "mids." This is accomplished by adjusting the height of each individual pole. The upper and lower frequency poles are higher (closer to the string) and the mid-range poles are set lower (further away from the string). For info on pole adjustment, see the following:

Hope this helps!
